9M6XRO/P and 9M6DXX/P, Pulau Labuan Island (OC-133), Sunday, 16 March, 2008 Print E-mail

Pulau Labuan (OC-133)FYI, John, 9M6XRO/P (GM3OOK - GMDX Club member), and I will be operating 9M6DXX/P from Pulau Labuan, IOTA OC-133, this Sunday, 16 March, and perhaps also Monday 17 March.
This trip is a "recce" for a possible longer operation for delegates after the SEANET Convention in November, depending on the attitude of the resort to our operation and antennas etc. Depending on the resort's cooperation, the amount of time we get on the air after negotiations and antenna work, and propagation conditions, we will stay either 1 or 2 nights.

9M6XRO/P will operate mainly or exclusively CW, 9M6DXX/P on SSB.
Rigs will be an FT-857 (SSB) and IC-7000 (CW) to a Tokyo Hy-Power 1.2Kfx linear amplifier at 400W out. We will use a Butternut HF6V vertical on 10 - 80m, plus an extended Butternut HF2 for 80m only in inverted-L configuration, with 42ft vertical section. For 17m, a dipole. No antennas for 12m or 160m, sorry.

The location is on the northernmost tip of Labuan island, and the antennas will be close to the ocean, though probably not right on the beach.

QSL 9M6XRO/P via M5AAV only. QSL 9M6DXX/P either via M5AAV or direct to WDT 527, 88905 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. M5AAV QSLs direct or via the RSGB bureau.

The best bet for QSOs with the UK will be between 1300 and 1700 on 20m on Sunday afternoon. I'll be around 14260kHz, John obviously at the CW end of the band somewhere. We don't yet know whether it will be possible to operate 2 stations at the same time: probably not as it is likely the antennas will be too close together.
