E51NOU, South Cook Is., Print E-mail
Written by Xavier
Tuesday, 16 October 2007

Cook IslandsOPDX received an E-mail late Friday from Bill, N7OU, who is now active as E51NOU, stating (edited): "Arrived here on Rarotonga on Monday, October 8th, and have logged about 2300 QSOs--all on CW, of course.

I've made most QSOs on 20 and 17m, with many grayline openings to Europe. The 'Grinder' jamming signal takes out 40m early in the evening, and condx on 30m have been marginal so far.

or antennas,I'm using an autotuner at the base of a 29 ft. wire supported by a 10m pole, about 5m from the ocean. It won't load up on 80m, but performs great on 40-10m. The other antenna is the 20m 2 element vertical Moxon that Jim, E51JD, and I put up on Wed. It gives 2 S-units gain on 20m, which is enough to pull in weaker stations I can't even hear on the other antenna.

t's no help on morning long path though..... My volunteer service here begins tomorrow, but I'll have lots of spare time for radio in the early morning and in the evening...... 73 de Bill N7OU/E51NOU"
